Style Yourself

I got a copy of Style Yourself this week and I'm really impressed! When I heard about this book I thought it might be like Style Diaries where it just featured outfits from various bloggers, but this book has a ton of information! It shows illustrations of different styles of all kinds of garments, from shorts, to skirts to dresses to shoes and so on, giving you names of the different styles so you can know what is being referred to when someone mentions a shift dress or a top with french darts, or a skirt with knife pleats. It's really a wonderful and easy reference, especially for someone who isn't that into fashion or has little knowledge of fashion terminology. There are hundreds of pages of examples of remixes, use of accessories, bloggers styling dresses, shorts, rocker tees, and so on. Plus, there are tips throughout by a bunch of bloggers such as Keiko Lynn, Rebecca, Rhiannon, Jennine and many more!

seasons come, seasons go

This week has been kind of odd. It's our slow week at camp, which means there's no camp session, but we have to do 10 hours of work at camp--various work projects and other stuff that needs to be taken care of. So I've been driving back and forth from camp to Tacoma, doing work and hanging out with Daniel. Thus, my wardrobe is a bit scattered and I'm sort of living out of my car, so a lot of remixing has been going on. Remixing is my favorite thing about the blogosphere. I love the fact that we get to see real wardrobes on blogs, and people wearing clothes over and over, but the styling being fresh and fun every time. It's not like magazines where you see one item styled one way and then you never see it again, and you certainly wouldn't see that same item styled over multiple seasons.

Dan and I love taking walks to our favorite coffee shops or taverns and I snapped the photo below on one of our walks this week. He looked too good with his shades, white shirt and cycling cap, I couldn't resist!

I had to style this skirt again before sending it on to the next Delightful Dozen lady. I love the color and shape and it's super comfortable. It's times like this that I curse the fact that it's vintage because I want to go out and buy one for myself so I can keep it!

I'm pretty sure I got like 2 or 3 Where's Waldo references while wearing this shirt. When I put it on I feel like it's more nautical, but apparently everyone else looks at it and thinks Waldo. I guess I wasn't hiding well enough because everyone found me.

the right stuff

My mom came into town this past week for a couple days and we had a ton of fun! I haven't seen her since visiting home back in May, so it was great to catch up. It was so perfect that she ended up being in town on my off-week from camp. We met up in Tacoma and then drove down to Portland because she had to return something to the Ikea down there. We stayed overnight at a family friends' house and then drove back the next day. A quick trip but the drive down and back afforded us plenty of time to talk and catch up. Dan thinks it's pretty funny that my family is such a road tripping family. We're always driving here or there, making trips from place to place. It's definitely an activity my family enjoys a lot! Driving is actually one thing that I will do if I'm super stressed out or upset-- just get in my car and start driving, not even with a destination in mind. I love the sound of the engine and the road beneath my tires. It's very soothing and relaxing for me. I've always said that the inside of my car is the place that feels most like a sanctuary.

This is one of my favorite dresses of all time. If you remember almost a year ago I did a post on Dainty June's collection that I fell in love with. Well, a few months ago Modcloth had a mega sale and I snatched this beauty up for really cheap! I wore it a couple times and then on Dan's birthday I was making him dinner and I got oil splatters on it! Ack! I tried to get it out but I only made them slightly less noticeable. Oh well!

different names for the same thing

It's still weird seeing myself with brown hair. I think the weird part is that it's not really that weird. I see pictures of it red and it's like that was the longest dream ever. A year long ginger dream. I suppose in reality it was only a blink of an eye. I spent only 1/24th of my life as a ginger. I'll go back to red someday, I just adored having red hair. I have a lot of clothes that I've never worn with dark hair and it's interesting how having a different hair color changes the vibe of something. I put on one of my older dresses the other day and I realized that I very rarely wore it with red hair, but now that my hair is dark again I immediately grabbed it and put it on. This beige dress is one I'm pretty sure I've never worn with dark hair so it's interesting to see it with a different look!
