Morning is the place for dew

I think this is one of my favorite sets of photos so far. They make me feel like a woodland faerie. Yesterday started out as another one of those really beautiful, cloudy and drizzly mornings, and it stayed that way pretty much all day, but right when I got home all the clouds disappeared and the sun burst out of seemingly nowhere!

Perhaps I feel like a woodland faerie in these photos, but I'm fairly certain that a true faerie of the woods would have greater control over its tiny menaces. My legs are now a battlefield of mosquito bites. In my zeal to go traipsing about the woods, tripod and camera in tow, I neglected (as I always do..) to apply any sort of bug repellant. Apparently, feeling nasty and gross after a 10 hour day is not enough repellant for bugs.

This dress (which is worn as a top here), is from Maria of Lulu Letty! The Delightful Dozen is back in the swing of things. I mean, pretty much all of my recent posts have been DD related! It's nice to get back to swapping after a kind of lull the past couple months.

Oh, and if you haven't been over to Selective Potential yet today, check it out! I'm guest blogging for Tieka today since she's a bit down and out, recovering from getting her wisdom teeth pulled. I'm actually wearing a DD item in that post too! One of Tieka's skirts– appropriate, since it's her blog!

Stay tuned in the Delightfully Tacky world this week. I've got a great giveaway coming to you guys and other Brave- related things as well.

Full Metal Jacket

It was rainy all day yesterday, and very mellow. As much as I love sweltering sunny days in summer, I also love the rainy days. The smell is so refreshing and it kind of forces you to chill out and relax. The rain got me thinking about the trip and my clothing situation in regards to camping. More specifically, I started thinking about buying a coat. I know it probably seems silly to most people to be thinking about buying a coat in the middle of summer, but it's really not that crazy to want a coat at any time of year when you live in Alaska. I'm on a quest for a certain kind of jacket though. I don't want anything fancy, more utilitarian. And not too heavy, I can layer underneath it for cooler temperatures. Despite wanting a utilitarian coat, I don't want it to be just some fleece Northface jacket, I prefer it to have some measure of style.

1. Billabong Commander Jacket 2. Empyre Impulsive Jacket 3. Element Kodiak Jacket
4. Empyre Valor Hooded Moto Jacket 5. ModCloth Checklist Jacket

Since I will be wearing this jacket to do actual work like hooking up when I get to camp, making fires, working on stuff, and all other sorts of unforseen outdoor activities, I want it to be relatively durable. Of the above options my favorites are the Kodiak Jacket from PacSun and the Empyre Valor Moto jacket from Zumiez. I went to both stores today and did not find either jackets in the stores, and I'm pretty hesitant to buy a jacket online, but I might figure out what their return policies are and just go for it. Although, both are sold out of my size... perhaps I'll just have to wait a little longer and see if they come back in stock.

I'm hopin' for Raleigh

I was so excited when Maria of Lulu Letty joined the Delightful Dozen. She has such great style and I couldn't wait to see what she put up for swap. I was so thrilled that she put up her Lulu Letty ModCloth dress! I remember seeing it on her when she was featured on ModCloth and I fell in love with the simple chambray dress. It actually reminds me a lot of the dress I styled up at the Revolve photo shoot, only way less expensive!

Secret time: I play guitar. I'm not that great at it, but I do the best I can. I don't really have enough time in the day to practice all the time. This guitar is actually my little brother's but he stopped playing guitar years ago, so I have "borrowed" it. Both of my guitars got left in Washington when I moved up here. I'm excited to grab them when I drive through Washinton on my trip. Hopefully I'll have more time to play, and maybe actually finish one of my own songs. I have a music myspace, but all the songs I've posted are covers. Nothing fancy, just recorded with my Mac and GarageBand.
A guitar is the best accessory, though. Anyone looks about 100 times cooler the instant they're holding a guitar. And boys become 100 times more attractive with a guitar, pretty much universally. Why is this? I am not sure. Maybe it has something to do with guitar players knowing what to do with their hands... haha! I think people who play music use their brains in a different way too. The visual mentality is pretty ingrained in me, and I try to make my brain think in a more musical way, but it's not natural for it to be like that. It's more of a second language than a first language. Consequently, I'm not very confident when it comes to my music. Hopefully with more practice I'll gain a little confidence.
