Queen Bee

I have been so busy this week that the internet has been rather low on my priority list.  It kind of feels good to be doing physical things rather than clicking around a virtual world.

I've been doing a lot of art and a lot of magazine logistics/creation this past week and that will continue on for at least another week.  So, I'll try to keep this updated with fun things.  I am too tired to get my camera out and take pictures of what I've been up to, so here's a photobooth picture of a corner of my room with a conglomeration of things related to what I've been working on.

There are some motorhome embroideries and a half started painting.  Kind of messy right now, since I have a bunch of art accoutrements hanging about.  I will have better pictures of my art later.

Some exciting news, CORSAIR is going to have a debut party next friday!  Which means I have to be printed by like, four days from now.  And it's not even half done.  So I guess you can imagine what I'm going to be doing this weekend.  Her are some shots of done spreads. Just the cover and contents page.  I am in love with Ruben's paintings of girls.  He has this whole series of girls with their eyes closed.  Stunning.

Oh, and a question for you guys.  I am getting so many comments on the article I wrote urging people to express themselves with their clothing choices vs. wearing sweats all the time.  They are saying that I am incorrect in labeling them as lazy and looking like slobs. (if you want to read the article and my lovely hate comments go to http://www.whitworthian.com/1.1480926-1.1480926 ).  What do you guys think?  I realize that sweats are comfy, but I use them to slough around the house in.  When I go out I am presenting myself to the world, and so when I see people wearing sweats I just think they don't care.

So vote:
Are sweats in any way a expressive of a style?
Or
Do they just make you look lazy and like a slob?

MwM Episode 2

Here's to another Menswear Monday!  No, I did not forget, I have just been out an about doing things since 8:30 this morning.  The second issue of CORSAIR Magazine is looking extremely lovely and I am quite excited for it.    But anyways, onwards and upwards to MwM!

This week is all about vests and vest type items.  As a default, this post is also all about layering, since wearing a vest on is own would be somewhat strange, and decidedly too cold for the recent climate.  My favorite of these is the second one,  the dark jean vest is just so eighties, I can hardly stand it.  It almost makes me want my own black jean vest...

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I think I could go for some acid wash slim jeans.  Well, actually I could just go for doing my laundry, but I'm way too busy.  What is your guys' favorite vest look?  All four have such different vibes going for them!

Tomorrow I may have some sneak peeks of issue 2 and some finished works of art!  Stay tuned, lovelies, and thank you for the comments, they make my day!

Human After All

I am half drunk on gin and in bed trying to coax myself to sleep at 8:30 pm.  I must wake up at five a.m. tomorrow morning.  And I still smell like espresso from today's shift.  Hopefully soon I will have a job doing something that doesn't make me smell strangely.  I want to work for NYLON.  I just want to do anything for them.  Eventually I want to design pages for a magazine, but if I could do little things like do menial photoshop work or fold clothes or deliver mail to people, I would love to just get my foot in the door.

Well, since I should sleep... Here is yesterday's outfit:
Shirt/Thrifted : Jeans/Thrifted : Moccasins/Thrifted : Belt/ Vintage : Hat/Nordstrom

Plethora

I have decided that I simply must find a bookshelf and paint it as this dresser has been. The color is just too perfect and I love the antiquing look of sanding the edges.

I bought a teeny tiny shelf and tried to reproduce this on a small scale.  It worked out pretty good.  I might repaint it, the color is not exactly where I want it to be.  It is so cute though!

Here is a finished (?) version of the embroidered Winnebago.  Any thoughts?  I might put a shadow underneath it so it's not just 'floating.'

Yesterday's outfit.  Feeling 70's:
Skirt/Thrifted : Top/Urban Outfitters : Scarf/Thrifted

Thanks for the comments you guys!  I love receiving them and reading all your guys' thoughts and responses!  Keep em coming!

You and whose army?

Today was interesting.  This whole week has been interesting.  Mainly internally.
I stood before the old art building at my school and watched them demolish it.  I started crying. It was kind of embarrassing, crying about a building.  It even sounds ridiculous.  I cried all the way to the new building.

I had a mid-project critique today in my advanced printmaking class.  This is what I showed.  It's pretty close to done, just needs a few more details (the flying W on the side in orange, and some grille detailing).  I want to do a bunch of these, at least ten, all different angles or winnebagos.

Should I continue doing them on paper or should I start doing them on fabric?  If I do them on fabric I am going to put them in the stretcher hoop thing for embroidery and leave them like that, as a 'frame'.  I like the way that this looks on paper though, because from a distance it looks like it's just screen printed.  Having it on fabric would give me the ability to be more intricate, however.  Discussing this with myself right now makes me want to do the fabric route.

Here is yesterday's outfit:
shirt/thrift : jeans/thrift : shoes/thrift : hat/made by my grandma for me!
I found the shirt in a bag I had intended to take to value village full of old clothes I never wore.  I am glad I went through it again, it was just sitting in a closet for months.  For some reason, this is one of my favorite outfits I've worn in a while.
